AnthroCommunity is quite large and always growing. It's easy to feel lost in the crowd so let's bring some of you out of the shuffle and share some spotlight. Beginners, hobbyists and professionals are all invited to share the glory. Meet someone new!
Our first deviant we bring from the crowd is ~obliviousally
Hello ~obliviousally! Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I'm a twenty-something chick who is fumbling her way through college with no real gameplan other than learn, learn, learn new things. I live with my fiancé, five cats, two rats, and a cranky uyromastyx. I have a great and powerful love for macarons, biking in the summertime, opossums, and office supplies. I dislike the winter cold, holes in my socks, and clothes that are cute but don't fit me because I'm a fatty and should probably stop eating so much junk food.
How long have you been doing art?
Over ten years now, which is always a surprise to me. Despite drawing and doodling for so long, there's still a lot I'm not that skilled at. Which is a result of me not drawing as much as I did in, say, high school.
What brought about your interest into Anthro?
I actually got into the furry fandom back in the beginning of time when I was into the Sonic the Hedgehog comics that Archie put out. I found rat.org (which became the Squeaky Clean Furry Archive - SCFA - and then Yerf!) and kind of fell in love with the creativity of human-animal people.
While drawing so much anthro art over the years has kind of stunted my human drawing, I still enjoy it immensely because of the seemingly endless variety of combinations and designs one can come up with.

I do! I mean, she's basically just myself, but as an anthro character, we're the same personality/build-wise. She's a 'pox': half Red Fox, half Virginia Opossum. Originally she was just a plain fox, but I changed her recently because I didn't feel she was quite 'right' in comparison to myself. If that makes sense.
I think I just made a personal fursona originally because everyone else had one. I ended up with a fox, I think, because they were so popular and I didn't bother to come up with something else.

Who is your biggest inspiration?
Definitely *bara-chan! I taught myself to draw by studying her artwork years ago, when she first started posting online. She's still a big inspiration and I love her inking and use of colors.
Other long-standing inspirations: `loish (gosh such a unique style and beautiful curves and muted shades), *tracyjb (amazing expressions and storytelling, I've been following her since Yerf, as well!), *celesse (just beautiful and adorable characters), =starinthegutter (more beautiful inks and creative characters), :devabigallarson: (moody, macabre, and spooky scenes and characters), ~DimeSpin (gosh I don't even have words for how amazingly creative she is), ~TenaciousBee (more unique and sassy characters)...
I could seriously go on and on about artists who have been amazing inspirations (and still are!) to me, but then this whole thing would become my recommendations on other people! Basically: go through my favorites for A+ Quality Artworks.

Any words of advice for other artists?
First the bad news: there will always be someone more talented or skilled than you. The good news? That's totally okay because artists get better by learning from other artists. Study the illustrations and artists you adore. Study their linework, their coloring, watch Livestreams of them sketching, find out who THEIR inspirations are, study them. Study EVERYTHING. Don't be afraid to use references, don't be afraid to sketch over stock photos. Don't stress over things not being 'perfect', don't stress over less-than-perfect anatomy. Keep drawing and drawing even if it looks awful because everything looks awful at first until you learn to refine it. Draw dumb, cliche things if they make you happy. Draw badas chicks with angel and demon wings. Draw sparkledogs. Draw fanart that makes people cry because of feels.
Try your best not to get discouraged, but don't beat yourself up if you do. Just try again the next time you put pencil to paper (or pen to tablet).
Thank you obliviousally!
