Tell us a little about yourself.

Hello! My name is Grace, but I do prefer to be called “Raven” online because that is the name of my fursona. I live in the United States currently, but in my life, I want to travel and see everything. While I do draw furries in my spare time, I do want to be a writer. A novelist mostly, but society has really made it clear that that will not pay the bills. Once this summer is over, I will be a junior in high school, and be working to get two years of college under my belt by the time I graduate high school.

How long have you been doing art?

As long as I could hold a crayon, I was scribbling on paper. But I’ve been drawing anthro since I was in 7th grade. Before that, I was into anime, but I didn’t really feel like I belonged into the fandom. Once I got into the Furry Fandom, I really felt at home (:

What brought about your interest in Anthro?

Honestly, it was my older brother that brought it to my attention. He was into the fandom, so, curiously, I switched my art style from anime to furries.

Do you have a fursona or favourite character?  If so, what inspired it?

I do, in fact. My fursona is Raven. She is the reflection of my inner self. When I was first drawing furries, I couldn’t find a character that fit me. So the design for her suddenly popped into my head as I was drawing, and I knew I wanted to call her Raven.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

Throughout the years, I have had different inspirations at different times. But at the moment, I absolutely adore :iconaimiarts:’s drawing style. I love the way she draws muzzles, since that is one thing I have always seemed to struggle with. Her style is also just adorable! Meow :3
I am also inspired by these guys:

What are you looking to improve in your art?

Like just mentioned, I would like to improve the way I draw muzzles. But furries aside, I would love to learn to draw things like cars, guns, planes, cyborgs, etc. Those things are interesting, and can help expand my skill and style.

Any recurring themes through your artwork?

Not really, honestly, since my work consists of some commissions and the random ideas of which come into my mind. Except for one thing, I never seem to draw male characters. I can, and I could, but for some reason, all of my characters are female :’D

Do you follow a creative process?  Please share.

First, I come up with an idea. This may take some effort and inspiration which comes out of nowhere usually. But if I really need that spark of inspiration, I listen to music until an idea comes to mind. Then I sketch it. I have two sketches: a very basic one, and then a more detailed one. I outline it. When I color, I have separate layers for each color. So for example, I have one layer for the main fur color, the secondary fur color, hair, eyes, etc.

Any words of advice for other artists?

Draw. Trust me, when I first started drawing, my style was HORRIFIC. But as I kept drawing, I improved. Don’t be discouraged by other artists. Be inspired. Study art styles and find what they do that you would like to capture in your own work. Copying is okay, I’ve done it, as long as you do NOT post it or claim it as your own. Also, don’t just draw one thing. I see this with starting artists. Branch out. Try different poses, objects, expressions, styles, etc. Keep drawing until you find your own style. And one more thing. Don’t give up hope. I know that some people you watch may make a journal about how they now have 50,000 watchers, and you were just so proud that you got to 16. Don’t lose that pride. Everyone has started out that way.

Now tell us something completely random about yourself.

I am one of those people that love to read all the time. My favorite book at this moment is Hamlet by William Shakespeare. I love how crazy Hamlet is (or pretends to be).

To keep soldiering on when one has art block/lack of inspiration is sometimes very difficult to do and as ive found;is tied into how one feels which DOES effect ones artwork. Its interesting to see how different artists work through these problems and challenges in positive ways!
I feel there is a fine collection of artists here!!!!!
